Learn to Dance Salsa Together!

No dance experience needed.

This is an absolute beginner course. We start from the ground up and teach you the rhythm, steps, partnering connection and most common moves that make up the basics of salsa, as well as lots of fun partnering patterns to get you started. We designed this course to be taken as a dance pair, but you don't need to be a couple to dance together! Whether you're romantic partners, friends, family or roommates, you can learn to dance salsa. We promise no awkward moments if you're dancing with your mom!

Lead & Follow

Dance roles, not gender roles.

Partner dancing requires a Lead and a Follow, and both roles can be done by any gender. We encourage you to hold off on choosing your role until after you try the connection exercises in Chapter 2, or even do the course twice if you each want to learn both roles.

Communication is Key

Get feedback, find community.

Each lesson in this course is accompanied by a Discussion section where you can chat with fellow students, get your dance questions answered by Ana and Talek, and even get feedback! We also have a thriving online community of dancers you can join on social media to stay motivated and make friends.

INSTRUCTORS

Ana Gherasim

They/She

A lifelong learner and educator, Ana is passionate about the pedagogy of dance and is always looking for ways to tweak and improve their teaching as well as their dancing. Ana grew up convinced that they had two left feet, but fell in love with social dancing in 2008, and never looked back. Their classes always try to balance fun challenge with accessibility and empathy for fellow slow learners.

Talek Cameron

He/Him

Talek began dancing in his early 20’s; he took lessons from anywhere he could and the more he learned, the more he discovered his new passion in life. Having no prior dance experience proved challenging. It wasn’t until he moved to Ottawa that he overcame that challenge by exposing himself to a new level of dancing. Today, Talek can be found performing on stage, social dancing (his favorite thing to do) and continuing to try and best himself. Talek is thrilled to now be able to share his passion in the classroom and help give back to the Latin dance scene.
